I am from Madison, Wisconsin. Over the past years I have traveled a lot with my partner in different parts of the world, especially Southeast Asia; we always used public transport. We recently started to plan a 6 months trip through Central Asia, although everything is unsure these days.

The first challenge is to find a suitable vehicle. If we can find a good affordable 4x4 campervan we'll go for it, otherwise it will be a rooftent.

Hi Jenny, welcome to the forum,

We travelled Central Asia long while back, and to be honest really enjoyed it.. At the time we had a 4x4 and no roof tent, we camped and stayed in cheap accommodation, which actually worked out quite well.

I think going for a 4x4 Van or campervan, is a good idea over a roof tent, as it allows you to be little more stealthy if you decide free camp along the way, roof tent's generally are not good that as they draw too much attention.

If you have any specific questions please let us know

Thank you for the offer Martin and Nicole!

Our preference would be a campervan, ideally one with a pop-up roof, but they are not easy to find for an affordable price.
