Hi All,

I am new to this forum. My friend (Canadian) and I (Australian) are planning a global overland trip.

We aim to ship our vehicle (Toyota Hilux 4x4) in July 2017 from Perth to Singapore. We will meet the vehicle in Singapore and travel overland to Europe. From Europe/UK, we wish to ship to US or Canada (Whichever is the cost efficient option) and drive to Vancouver, then head south along the west coast of the Americas to Patagonia. Our duration is a minimum of 12mths hopefully with humanitarian work opportunities along the way (we like to help people in need).

We have camping, trekking, hiking and backpacking experience, but are very new to overland travel. Our vehicle is off-road capable and our sleeping arrangements will be via swags and tent.

Please say hello, and all advice is truly appreciated. If you have tips and info in regards to shipping, humanitarian works, great camping locations etc please let us know!

We hope to obtain a wealth of knowledge from you all before we embark on The Journey Of A Lifetime!

Thanks,

M.

Hi Maddog

When are you planning to do your trip?

We are going in the opposite direction from Bhutan to Europe the long way round.

Good luck!

Hi Bhutan.

We are working out logistics at the very moment. Since posting on here back in November, there have been slight change in plans. We are hoping to ship our vehicle to India (not Singapore) and meet it there in Mid June this year. Our currently travel itinerary is India > Nepal > Myanmar > Thailand > Laos > China > Mongolia > Russia > Central Asia > Europe.

Are you shipping from Asia to North America?

Maybe we will cross paths at some stage. :)

hi maddog.
how is going with all the planning? are you based in perth? I'm in nsw right now, struggling a bit to find someone to get the car ready, thought I have my mechanics in midland and not going back to perth that soon.
anyway, I pretty much have a similar idea...singapore- malaysia- thailand- myanmar- india- nepal- india- pakistan- iran- and somehow further ;) thought I changed the singapore-idea. $3500 was the cheapest shipping, but they don't allow 4wd, so another few hundred bucks for towtruck out of singapore. what quote did you get for india?
I'm really thinking about changing my whole plan and go to southamerica first. seems to be easier, than the southern route through asia.
anyway... would be great to share a container, but I wont leave perth before october.
good luck ;)

Hi gypsygirl,

Planning is coming along, we are trying to schedule all our visas for Asia and the Stans at the moment. Yes, we are based in Perth, and our car is ready to go. Unfortunately, I do not know any reputable mechanics in NSW for you :(

We did look at a few shipping options. 1) Shipping to Port Klang 2) Shipping to Singapore 3) Shipping from Brisbane to those ports. But our current route makes the most sense for us (Shipping Fremantle to Kolkata). From information gathered, you can ship to Singapore, however, as you have stated, you need to organise a flatbed truck at pickup point to escort your vehicle to Malaysian border, as Singapore will not allow you to drive a foreign 4WD/motorhome within Singapore itself.

Quotes we have received:
Shipping via 20ft container Fremantle to Port Klang = ~$2700AUD
Shipping via 20ft container Fremantle to Kolkata = ~$3100AUD
These quotes were provided a couple months ago by Colless Young Pty Ltd
Customs Brokers, International Freight Forwarders & Trade Solutions - Colless Young Pty Ltd

We are still looking at RORO shipping options, however, we may be limited to container shipping, as most RORO will not allow us to pack the vehicle with our gear.

We are still travelling India > Nepal > Myanmar > Thailand > Laos > China > Mongolia > Russia > Central Asia > Europe.
We will be shipping out at the beginning of June.

Hope this helps!

Keep us posted on your planning!

Cheers,
M.
