Hi there. I'm planning on overloading through South America starting this fall and continuing into 2023. My current plan is to buy a vehicle in Colombia and resell at the end of the trip. The alternate/backup is to drive something down from Canada and ship from Panama to Colombia.
One of the challenges planning an overland trip in 2022 is that a lot of the info is from pre-COVID so stale. Also, it looks like the number of people overloading in 2022 is still pretty small. I know the borders are open in South America and purchasing a vehicle in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru is pretty standard (wit Colombia being the easiest). Shipping is the big unknown. I've heard that rates are much higher than pre-covid. Normally bringing a vehicle from Canada would likely be the best plan. Not sure that's true in 2022 (but will research).
Anyways, looking forward to meeting other overlands in this forum. If anyone is going to bring a vehicle into South America this year, I'd lover to hear from you
