Hi everyone. I am going to buy a new L3H3 and convert to a campervan. We will NOT live in it, but will travel 3-4 months a year ALL over mainland Europe and UK. I am looking for advice from those with experience.
I am debating between buying AWD vs. FWD Trail Package with mLSD. We will not travel in heavy snow at all, but will encounter light snow in the mountains for sure. We prefer to camp offgrid as much as possible and avoid campsites. So, we like to go offroad or down infrequently traveled roads, always following the law.
I accept that an AWD Transit is heavier, more expensive to buy and service and gets worse fuel economy. I am more interested in your experienced opinions about the true value of having AWD. Does it really matter over the FWD with mLSD? It the AWD only helpful 1-2% of the time, or do you find it much more impactful than that? If you have had FWD but "next time" you would get AWD if your budget allowed, would you do it, or still save the money and get FWD again?
