Thailand Update:

We have received an email today from the Department of Land Transport (DLT) confirming that they plan to require foreign travellers with vehicles to have official tour guide and Thai-registered vehicle assisting them throughout the journey in Thailand.

No time frame for the implementation of the new rules has been provided, however the DLT will provide a grace period once the new rules are announced.

Dear Sir,

We are indeed planning to add more requirement to the foreign vehicle regulation. Department of Land Transport will be requiring all travellers planning to use vehicle in Thailand to have official tour guide and Thai-registered vehicle assisting them throughout the journey in Thailand. However, the specific time this additional requirement will come into effect is yet to be decided.

Please reassure that we will provide a grace period for all travellers to adjust their journey to the new regime accordingly. The official update will be posted on http://www.dlt.go.th/

As of the moment, travellers are still allowed to apply for the permit without having an official guide travelling with them. They still need travel agency to process the application. The travel agency will need submit the application online through Thailand Transport Application on these following conditions:
1. Using vehicle only in the entry province: must apply for the permit 10 working days prior to the date of entry.
2. Using vehicle beyond the entry province: must apply for the permit 30 working days prior to the date of entry.
Lastly, we have no plan to relax the regulation for any specific nationality.

Sincerely,
