We started in Georgia in late May, bought two motorcycles there and are currently in Turkey, as part of this overland (obvs by motorcycle not RV/Jeep) trip. Here's a map of our likely countries. We hope to use these current bikes in the Europe/W Asia legs, would love to get them to the Middle East if possible, and then will buy new ones in Vietnam and Ghana later on.
We thought we did thorough research on borders before the trip, but found out that we missed a technicality in getting vehicles into Turkey: they need to be registered in the same country as the owner's country of residence. We're American, the bikes are Georgian, so the border agents only agreed to give us a 15 day transit visa as a result. We plan to loop back through Turkey and overstay our visa if we get the same pushback on our return.
We're currently setting up to cross into either Greece or Bulgaria, and would love any advice on border crossings between any of the countries on the map, if you have any.
Aside from that, we're open to any other off-beaten-path suggestions, ideas, or questions!
