Hi everyone I'm thinking of doing a massive overland trek with a mate of mine from the UK down to South Africa. I currently have very limited knowledge about 4x4 vehicles and vehicle maintenance in general but wish to learn everything there is to know from now until when we decide to go. I don't have a 4x4 at present but will obviously buy one as I'll need it! I want to do as much research as I can before buying my rig though. I do have a fair amount of actual offroading experience but not to the extremes like climbing up boulders with winches or anything lol I'm ex-Police and my patrol area was very rural and I had a Ford Ranger Police vehicle to knock about in which was really good fun. As for my future rig at the moment I'm kind of looking into either the Land Rover Defender 110 or Toyota Land Cruiser (I used the Toyota Land Cruiser when driving through the Sahara a few years ago over the sand dunes and it was an incredible rig! I'm also really interested to see what the new Ineos Grenadier will turn out like seeing as Land Rover fudged the new Defender (in my eyes) the Ineos Grenadier is more of a utility vehicle than the new Defender which qualifies it on my list of possibilities the crunch will be in the price. I want to be able to put the mods on that I want. Anyway, I hope I haven't scared any of you away with my noobness but I wanted to reach out to groups like this one to listen to a plethora of real driving experience rather than what google wants to tell me.
