Hello everybody, like my handle suggests my name is Bill and I currently live in Hungary. I came across this forum via the site's facebook page which I discovered while researching overland life in Africa.

We currently own a 1989 Toyota 4-Runner, and I'm in the process of entering it and myself in the Budapest to Bamako rally in 2022 (which was the driver behind my overlanding research). Originally hailing from the Pacific Northwest of the United States, I'm no stranger to 4-wheel drive Toyotas, unimproved roads, and the occasional overland trip. Most trips have been relatively short in nature and usually just involve some old logging roads followed by an improvised camp site. It would be my a dream to go on a much longer adventure once the kids are old enough to entertain such an idea.

Anyhoo enough about all that, tell me about yourselves!

-Bill

hi Bill, welcome to the forum

The Budapest to Bamako rally sounds interesting, what is the route planned? and over how many days is the rally?

I assume that the end of the rally the vehicles are donated locally? or are you planning to continue travelling.

The route wont be published until much closer to the event (Mid-Jan of 22) but the route usually has us start in Budapest and run 4000km to spain in 4-days. From there we spend another 10 or so days putting down the west side of Africa towards Freetown. In total it's 8000km.

Some people donate their cars, some people sell them, but I'll be turning mine around and driving back to Hungary. My kids and I are rather attached to the old 4-Runner, and we dont want to part with her just yet.
