I am currently based in France where I arrived with my Land Rover Defender 110 "Puma" a few months ago.
I am coming originally from South Africa and intend to return there sometimes this year either via the (difficult) West Coast route (from Spain : Morocco, Mauritania,,,) or from the relatively easier East Coast by shipping my Landy from Marseilles in France to Port Sudan as Egypt remains an administrative headache. Another possibility would be to "turn around"the Mediterranean via Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and ship from Jeddah to Sudan...
PLEASE NOTE that my vehicle is a RHD one and that I am waiting for a ruling from the Sudan Embassy in Paris to know if I shall be able to enter and transit through Sudan. If this is a NO GO I shall either ship my vehicle to Mombasa in Kenya or Dar in Tanzania. The alternative of course would be returning to South Africa via the West Coast.
Anyhow, once in Sudan, if allowed, it will be the usual way via Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and so on... back to SA.
Please note that I am open to any other ([possible!) routes to South Africa.
The trip will be leisurely as I shall be under no time constraints as well as for the departure date.
I arrived alone in Europe and at this stage I am also alone for the trip back, although open to share my vehicle with another (compatible!!) traveller all the way to SA (NOT for only a part of the trip)
I am especially looking for a couple (male, female, mixed... does not matter) to travel in their own 4x4 as for such a trip security improves with two vehicles. Any brand (ever a Toyota for the Landy guy I am !!!) as long as the vehicle is in an acceptable state for this harsh and long duration journey.
Age as well as nationality in unimportant... as long as we can communicate ! I am speaking English, French and Dutch fluently. Afrikaans is of course a welcome party too !
Please contact me if you are in the planning stage of an identical journey once the pandemic has allowed some currently closed African borders to re-open.
All the Best to all of you !
Mark
