We are Margriet (1952) and Jan (1954). We are preparing an overland trip from the Netherlands to South Africa (and as we hope many more trips). In October 2012 we became the proud owners of a Toyota Landcruiser Camper the will accompany us.
We are still in full preparation of the trips that we plan to make. Also our site is still very much under development. It is nice that we were already found by other travelers. Do you want to know more now already about our travels in the past. Have then a look at our YouTube channel. You will find over 700 clips that have been watched more than 3,000,000 times in total.
The route for the Africa trip hasn't been fixed yet. We intend to travel along the east side of Africa from north Africa to southern Africa (Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, South Africa and surrounding countries). Depending on our experiences we will decide to put the car on a vessel in South Africa and have it sailed back to Europe or to drive back along the west coast. The route to Egypt is very dependent on the political situation at the moment we start traveling. The traditional route via Turkey and Syria is currently no option; alternatives are (1) sail over to Tunisia and drive along the coast through Libya to Egypt or (2) via Turkey, Iran, Oman and Saudi Arabia. We expect that the trip to South Africa will take about a year.
Our plan is to leave in August 2013. We have made a number of shorter trips in Europe to try everything out.
Have a look at our site www.DeEinderVoorbij.nl. Its is in Dutch, with a summary in English.
