It has always been my dream to travel from Singapore to the UK over land. I am now in southern Thailand and plan in 2023 to follow this route:
Train to Korat, then on to Vientiane (by train if possible, with gaps covered by bus)
Vientiane to Kunming.
Kunming to Almaty or Astana in Kazakhstan
Jeep trip to the Caspian
Catch a boat across to Azerbaijan or Dagestan, then on to Geogia, through Turkey, up through the Balkans and then on to UK.
This all depends on the cerveza bug and geopolitics of course ... but that aside, the biggest question I have is about getting across the Caspian, given that my onward route is via Georgia.
Azerbaijan or Dagestan? Pros and Cons? Experiences? I'd love to hear people's stories! This is the biggest unknown of my plan ...
